Solar Energy

Solar PV (photo voltaic) panels are well suited to Ireland for producing electricity for your home, farm or business
You might not have Ireland at the top of your list for best places to collect solar energy, but we receive as much solar radiation as other European countries that have millions of installations.
Generating electricity from solar panels does not require heat, just daylight. In fact, the slightly cooler climate in Ireland makes the panels more efficient than very hot climates. Even in the cold of outer space, the International Space Station gets its power from solar panels.
What about the rain that we enjoy from time to time? Solar PV works with any form of daylight, whether it be direct sunlight or indirect light partially blocked from clouds or reflected from buildings.
Solar PV panels still produce up to 25% of their typical output on a cloudy or rainy day. In fact, rain can help with the efficiency of the panels by washing off the dust and pollen collected by the panels.
Solar panels have no moving parts and work silently with no emissions. The solar energy is converted to electrical power and it’s produced at a low voltage, doesn’t produce any health risks and solar energy has a negligible environmental impact.
Electricity costs only increase over time while you continue to benefit from the power generated from your original investment.
With solar panels that produce hot water (solar thermal collectors), your only option is making hot water. With a solar PV panel, you generate electricity that can be used to power any item and excess electricity can be used to make hot water.
Additionally, excess power can be stored in a battery system or, in the near future, sold to the grid. This makes solar PV more versatile than solar thermal.

Residential Solar Panels
- Start saving on your monthly bill from day one.
- Installing a 3kW – 20 sq. m residential solar PV generation system will create around 2,600kWh of electricity a year, which is over 40% of the average annual electricity demand of an Irish home.
- SEAI homeowner grants up to €2,400 for dwellings built & occupied pre 2021.
-
Reduce your carbon footprint by approximately 15%.
Improve the value and BER rating of your home.
Commercial Solar Panels
- An investment in solar PV generation is an investment in the future as well as your business. With a payback period of less than 5 years, the panels will be provide a superior return on investment.
- Businesses can avail of the ACA (Accelerated Capital Allowance).
- A typical 6.1 kWp system generating up to 5,400 kWh annually, savings are up to €1,000 annually and the carbon savings are 1.53 tonnes per year.

Agricultural Solar PV Panels
- Farmers can avail of the Targeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS) on-farm investment scheme.
- Funding up to €9,300 or up to 60% of the overall cost will be available to fund a 6kWp solar system. VAT can be reclaimed through the ACA (Accelerated Capital Allowance).
- Net return on investment is typically around 20% for a 6.6kWp system generating on average around 5,800 kWh per year.
Community Solar Panels
- Whether it’s community halls, sports clubs, churches or other community groups – solar PV can be part of the solution for organisations looking to reduce their dependency on fossil fuels & CO2 emissions.
- An investment in solar PV is an investment in the future as well as a cost saving opportunity. With a payback period of less than 5 years, the panels will provide a superior return on investment of approximately 20% throughout the life of the panels which come with a 25 year performance warranty.
- If you have a surplus of power, it can be diverted to heat water. Legislation is under way to allow selling your surplus energy to the grid. This is how you can be part of the solution while getting an excellent return on your investment.

Few Reasons to Choose Solar Energy
Solar PV Panels allow you to generate your own electricity to power your home, store in a battery for use later, make hot water, charge your car or sell to the grid. Solar panels are a smart solution for protection against rising energy costs, security of supply, carbon footprint reduction, typical payback in under 5 years.
